A FOREWORD...


The History of the Spell Book
The Spell Book was created an extensive compendium of Charms taught at Hogwarts and beyond. The pages are enriched with magic that allows the reader to carry on reading a single page in a scrolling motion, enabling one tome to carry more spells at once than all of the previous textbooks on the school curriculum. Any change to the 'master' book automatically update any copies in circulation.

In accordance with the rules (click), this book contains the complete list of Charms used on EB, sorted by the year they can be used from. The list includes a mixture of canon and original spell created by members.

Restricted Spells
Certain spells are restricted for use in role-plays and using them without the agreement of an admin will result in a warning, with further sanctions for repeated misuse. If you want to use one of these spells in a role-play, contact Gregory James, Lilliana Devane or Ashton McAlister. You will also need to obtain permission from your role-play partner(s) if you wish to use these spells on their character(s).

Non-Verbal Magic
Non-verbal magic is taught to Hogwarts students from their 6th Year onwards. Students in their 5th year may attempt to use non-verbal spells in a role-play, but they shouldn’t be successful. Anyone in 6th year and above would still be expected to have some difficulty casting non-verbal spells as they are very difficult to cast.

The more powerful or complex the spell is, or the more concentration it requires, the less likely it is to be successfully cast non-verbally. As a general rule of thumb the lower the year the spell is taught in, the easier it should be to cast non-verbally.

Wandless Magic
Non-verbal magic can be used in conjunction with Wandless Magic. Please note that Wandless Magic is a Special Power (click), and use of this power is restricted to those who have applied for it and been granted it.

Legilimency
Legilimency is considered a Special Power (click) on EB. Therefore, the spell that allows witches and wizards to break into one another's mind (Legilimens) is restricted to use only by those who have applied for the power and been granted it.

Aeris Orbis (Created by Gregory James)
Bountiful Bubble Charm
Wand Movement: Circular
Effect: Creates floating soap-bubbles from the wand tip that burst on contact with other objects.
Other notes: Not to be confused with the charm that creates permanent bubbles, which is more decorative but less fun. 2nd years should be able to create more bubbles and turn this spell into foam that can also be used as a fire suppressant (or to prank people with).


Alohomora
Unlocking Charm
Wand movement
Effect: Unlocks doors and windows.
Other notes: It’s able open doors locked by the Locking Spell (Colloportus) and can be countered by the Anti-Alohomora Charm.


Colloportus
Locking Spell
Wand movement
Effect: locks or seal doors so that they can’t be opened manually.
Other notes: Alohomora can still be used to unlock a door that’s been locked by this spell.


Diffindo
Severing Charm
Wand movement
Effect: Precisely and accurately cuts things.
Other notes: Can cause injury or death if used inappropriately. Emits light green or hot pink light when cast correctly.


Excaecatio (Created by Giovanni DiPietro)
Blinding Bolt Charm
Wand movement: Slash downwards
Effect: Creates a bolt of white light to momentarily disorientate an opponent.
Other notes: Second years and upwards can cast a more powerful version of the spell, which generates a downwards force to knock over light objects, such as people and chairs, within five feet.


Everte Statum
(spell has no name)
Wand movement: Point wand at victim.
Effect: Causes opponent to fly back several feet.
Other notes: Can cause a sharp pain to the opponent depending on the strength of the spell, but no lasting damage. Emits orange light when cast correctly.


Flipendo
Knockback Jinx
Wand movement
Effect: Physically repels an opponent or object.
Other notes: Emits a blue light if cast correctly. Second years and above can charge up the spell to cast a stronger version at which point the color will go from blue to a purplish-red. Past that point, the spell will backfire in mid-cast, or fly back to the caster, damaging them somewhat.


Incendio
Fire-Making Spell
Wand movement
Effect: Conjures a jet of flames.


Lumos
Wand-Lighting Charm
Wand movement
Effect: Illuminates the tip of your wand
Other notes: If charged properly, it will appear lemon-yellow; if over-charged, the charm will appear vibrant scarlet. There are stronger versions of the spell that can be cast by older students.


Nox
Wand-Extinquishing Charm
Wand movements
Effect: Counters Lumos and extinguishes the light it produces.


Periculum
(spell has no name)
Wand movement: Point wand at the sky.
Effect: Shoots red sparks from the caster's wand.


Reparo
Mending Charm
Wand movement
Effect: Mends broken objects and works on most materials. Magical objects are more difficult to mend. Wands can only be physically repaired by this spell, they will still be unable to cast magic afterwards. Experience in casting the spell will determine how well the objects are repaired.


Spongify
Softening Charm
Wand movement
Effect: Makes an area/object rubbery and bouncy
Other notes: Emits a pink light when cast correctly and can’t be used on other people.


Verdimillious
Verdimillious Charm
Wand movements: Forwards slash
Effect: Emits green sparks from the wand that can damage opponents or reveal things hidden by dark magic.
Other notes: Emits green light when correctly cast.


Wingardium Leviosa
Levitation Charm
Wand movement
Effect: Makes objects levitate.
Other notes: Can't be used directly on a person to levitate them, however, it can be used on their clothes to some effect.

Bluebell Flame
Wand movement: Wave wand
Effect: Conjures blue fire.
Other notes: the fire conjured is bright blue, waterproof, and radiates heat only to objects held directly above it. The fire can also be touched, penetrated and held without it burning the holder, though it is known to burn materials such as clothing and plants.

Flashing Paint Charm
Effect: Makes paint flash different colors.

Curse of the Bogies
Wand movement
Effect: Gives the victim a nasty cold and an extremely runny nose. Other notes: Emits green light when cast correctly.

Wand Movement: Point wand at spider
Effect: Blasts/repels spiders
Other notes: Emits a blue light when cast correctly. If the spell misses and strikes stone it will produce a large black scorch mark, and thus it is not recommended for use on humans, though casting through or along a human produces no ill effect so long as a spider is struck.

Effect: Reveals invisible writing.


Aurinitio (Created by Gregory James & Bertram Knowles)
Glowing Ear Jinx
Wand movement: Sharp flick towards target
Effect: Causes light to glow brightly from the victim's ears.
Other notes: The light emitted by the wand and the victim's ears are bright white, and it can cause great discomfort such as ringing and itching ears. This spell should wear off between an hour and two hours after casting. When incorrectly cast, the spell has been known to backfire on the caster and it may last for the better part of a day. The spell's effects can be reversed with Finite.


Avifors (spell has no name)
Wand moment: Sideways figure eight
Effect: Turns the target into either a bird, a flock of birds, or on occasion, a flock of bats.
Other notes: Emits electric blue light when cast correctly.


Engorgio
Engorgement Charm
Wand movement
Effect: causes the target to swell immensely
Other notes: It appears as a circle of icy blue light emanating from the tip of the wand, much like a torch. Anything within this circle will grow exponentially, bouncing and shivering. While it's safe to cast on animals and other people, it's not recommended until the caster has perfected the counter charm to it as anything that keeps swelling after a certain point will violently explode.

Effect: Creates a short burst of water from the tip of the wand.
Other notes: The intensity of the brief 'eruption' of water can be anything from a thin fountain to an immense, powerful and destructive jet.


Brachio Mortis (created by Gregory James)
Arm-Binding Curse
Wand movement: Point directly at the target
Effect: Binds the target’s forearms together
Other notes: The spell is part of the binding spell family and locks the targets forearms together near the wrists in a manner similar to handcuffs. The spell can be reversed using Finite.


Carpe Retractum
Wand movement: Whip-like
Effect: Creates a retractable, magical rope made of light.
Other notes: Creates an orange or purple light if cast correctly and can be used on plants and animals.


Diminuendo
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Shrinks objects


Draconifors
Wand movement: Slash wand at target
Effect: Transforms small objects into dragons that the caster can control
Other notes: The dragons produced from this spell are much smaller and less powerful than true dragons, and their size depends on the object from which they are transfigured - i.e. a smaller object will produce a smaller dragon, and a larger object will produce a larger dragon.


Episkey
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: heals relatively minor injuries such as broken noses and split lips


Exsplendeffio
Glitterfying Charm
Wand movement: Upwards arrow shape - "^"
Effect: Covers the target in fine golden glitter that sticks to them for several hours
Other notes: It works on surfaces, inanimate obects, animals, beasts, and even people. It can be removed immediately using Scourgify, although it will cause great discomfort (minor pain, itching, etc) if used on living creatures. This spell was created by Gregory James for Lilliana Devane while they attended Hogwarts together. Fifth years and above can change the colour of the glitter.


Fumos
Effect: Creates a defensive cloud of smoke from the tip of the wand


Glacius
Wand movement: Point wand
Effect: Causes air in front of the tip of the wand to reach extremely cold temperatures
Other notes: The spell is capable of extinguishing fires, creating ice blocks from water, and freezing several inches of water solid within seconds. Has the side-effect of making the breath of anyone nearby turn into thick white mist due to the extreme frigidity it causes.


Impervius
Wand movement: Tap target with wand
Effect: Causes an artifact to become waterproof, allow someone better sight in bad weather conditions by preventing the rain from hitting their faces, or to repel mist.


Lapifors
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Turns small things such as statues or cats into rabbits
Other notes: Has never been tested on humans and emits a green light if cast correctly


Lumos Solem
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Creates a bright and narrow light


Reparifarge
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Reverses the effects of an incomplete Transformation spell


Riddikulus
Effect: Degrades a boggart into something funny
Other notes: Creates a a whip-crack noise when correctly cast


Serpensortia
Wand movement: Raise wand
Effect: Conjures a snake from the tip of the wand
Other notes: Vipera Evanesca is the counter spell for this spell


Snufflifors
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Transfigures objects into mice


Vipera Evanesca
Wand movement: Wave wand
Effect: Vanishes snakes


Waddiwasi

Effect: Shoot a small, soft mass of whatever the caster desires at the target or victim

Effect: Causes teeth to elongate at an alarming rate
Other notes: Emits a violet light when correctly cast and can be countered by the shrinking charm

Wand movement: Sweeping movement
Effect: Pushes objects away from the caster
Other notes: Can be used on living things


Erecto
Wand movement: Point wand at the target
Effect: Straightens out the target object and sets it up


Furnunculus
Wand movement
Effect: Causes a person to break out in boils when it comes in contact with their skin
Other notes: Can be treated with the Boil-cure potion


Impedimenta

Effect: Temporarily slows the target target
Other notes: This spell usually only works for about 10 seconds and won't work against lethifolds, acromantula, or blast-ended skrewts unless it hits them on their underbellies


Inflatus

Effect: Increases the size of the target by inflating it.


Locomotor Wibbly
Wand movement
Effect: Causes the victim's legs to collapse


Luxaer (Created by Gregory James)
Witchlight Spell
Wand movement: Point in the air.
Effect: Creates a weak temporary light that floats in the air.
Other notes: Other Information: Lights created by this spell are very weak and multiple witchlights would need to be cast just to illuminate a small area. The lights will start to fade of their own accord and even someone accomplished in Charms would have to renew them every few hours, however, they are useful when a person needs both hands for another task and other sources of light are not available or practical. Finite Lux will extinguish the lights. The lights are not as effective or bright as using Lumos.


Millseco (created by Gregory James)
Papercut Jinx
Wand movement: Slashing "X"
Effect: Hits the target with multiple papercuts
Other notes: The papercuts are long, shallow, and no more than a minor stinging irritant. 4th years can hit with up to six papercuts. 6th years and upwards can use a more powerful version of the spell and hit with up to twelve cuts that can overlap. The spell was by Gregory James while he was at school.

Effect: Levitates and moves trees, plants, and wooden objects


Nivicole
Enchated Snow Cloud
Wand movement: Point wand at the spot you want the snow cloud to appear.
Effect: Conjures a small snow cloud.
Other notes: Emits a flash of pale blue light. The snow will only melt under direct heat, and can be vanised or removed using cleaning or vanishment spells. Use Meteolojinx Recanto to remove the cloud, or allow it to dissipate by itself after several hours.

Other notes: The created shield is invisible until spells hit it and give off their own light

Effect: Decreases the physical size of the target both internally and externally

Other notes: Releases a jet of fiery purple sparks at the target. Underwater, this spell fires a jet of boiling water at whatever the caster is pointing their wand at.

Effect: Tickles and weakens the target
Other notes: Produces purple light if cast correctly


Babbling Curse
Wand movement: Point at target
Effect: Causes uncontrollable babbling


Bat-Bogey Hex

Effect: Causes the target's bogeys to turn into large, black bats and fly out their nose
Other notes: The use of this spell on a non-human target (such as chickens, cats, ect) can be fatal and can result in punishment by the Wizengamont

Effect: Causes fur to grow on the target

Effect: Causes both animate and inanimate object to vanish


Expecto Patronum

Effect: Conjures a spirit guardian
Other notes: The vast majority of witches and wizards are unable to produce any form of Patronus, and to create even an intangible one is generally considered a mark of superior magical ability


Extinguishing Spell
Wand movement: Point wand
Effect: Puts out fires


Ferdivus Adflicto (created by Gregory James)
Targeted Pain Curse
Wand movement: Upwards slash
Effect: Causes the victim to feel as if their blood is on fire in a small area roughly the size of their forearm.
Other notes: This spell is maintained by the willpower of the caster and is particularly nasty when used on a person's head, however, the caster must be very accurate to achieve this. Created by Vincent James during his time as a student at Hogwarts.


Flagello (created by Gregory James)
Lashing Hex
Wand movement: Downwards slash
Effect: Lashes people like a whip.
Other notes: Formerly used for corporal punishment dating back from 1102 AD. Each 'lash' of the spell requires one downward slash of the wand. A scarlet light it emitted when the spell is cast and extends to form a magical 'whip'. Once the wounds heal, a thin silvery scar will be left behind. Use of this spell against a Being was made illegal by the Ministry in 1912.
Notes for use in RP: Permission to use this spell in RP must be sought from your role-play partner(s).

Wand movement: Draw in midair
Effect: Creates a burning, fiery line in the air which can be "drawn" with the wand into specific shapes or words
Hair-Thickening Charm
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Causes hair to grow thicker and longer


Galdorleóp (created by Claudia Visby)
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Gives the spell caster minor bad luck
Other notes: Often used by more experienced magic users to trick newer learners as a prank. The spell will last for up to a day, although the consequences of it going wrong can be disastrous


Hot Air Charm
Wand moment: Point wand at target
Effect: Conjures a stream of hot air


Incarcerous
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Binds the target with rope


Insectum Simulacrio (Created by Lilliana Devane)
Creepy Crawly Hex
Wand movement: A wiggly 'wave motion' towards the target.
Effect: This spell makes the target feel like they have bugs crawling over them, occasionally biting and stinging them.
Other notes: The spell emits a green light. The effects of the spell can vary depending on what bugs the caster is thinking of at the time and is maintained by the willpower of the caster. Accidentally created by Lilliana Devane during her time as a student, this spell came into being with a little creative mis-wording and a lot of imagination.


Instant Scalping Hex
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Shaves all the hair off a target's scalp Knee Reversing Hex
Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effect: Causes the victim's knees to move to the back of their legs


Knitting Charm
Wand movement: Point wand
Effect: Causes knitting needles to knit automatically


Levicorpus
Wand movement: Upwards flick
Effect: Causes the victim to be hoisted into the air by their ankle


Liberacorpus
Wand movement: Jerk wand upwards
Effect: Counteracts Levicorpus


Libereximō (created by Meghan Frisk)
Realisation Curse
Wand movement: Point at the target and draw the wand backwards
Effect: Releases repressed emotions and feelings that the target is keeping hidden, or can't feel at all. The effects last up to five minutes.
Other notes: Drawing out positive emotions produces a white light, while negative emotions show up a deep purple. While the curse can be used beneficially to make someone happy, it can also be used to release repressed anger, making it this a highly volatile spell. As such, it can be dangerous if the caster makes a mistake. This spell was created by Meghan Frisk during her later student years at Hogwarts.
Notes for use in RP: Anyone using this spell must ask the permission of their RP partner(s) first. Also, please do not use this spell just for the sake of it. Abuse of this spell will result in it being made restricted for RP use.

Effect: Changes the color and style of the caster's clothes

Obliteration Charm
Wand movement: Point wand towards the ground
Effect: Removes footprints from things such as snow


Oppugno
Wand movement: Point wand
Effect: Directs an object or individual to attack the victim


Reducto
Wand movement
Effect: Blasts solid object into a fine dust or ash
Other notes: Emits a blue light when correctly cast


Rennervate
Wand movement: Point want at chest
Effect: Awakens victim
Other notes: While this can be used to counteract stuns, it's ineffective against multiple stuns hitting someone as well as dark magic. Emits red light if cast correctly.


Respiratus Capio (Created by Gregory James)
Breathless Curse
Wand movement: Point at the victim and flick the wand backwards.
Effect: The spell ‘steals breath’ from the victim.
Other notes: Victims will experience sudden decompression of their lungs as the air is painfully expelled. Hypoxia is immediate and results in dizziness, rapidly followed by unconsciousness within seconds as the victim struggles to breathe. Normal breathing will restart on it’s own whether the victim remains conscious or not, although minor damage to the lungs may occur in some cases. During the recovery after an attack, the victim may feel light-headed, confused, have a rapid heart rate and breathing, and there’s a chance they may lose consciousness again. Graduates can cast this spell on multiple targets.

Effect: Reveals charms and hexes

Wand movement
Effect: Renders a victim unconscious and halts moving objects.
Other notes: emits red or blue light if cast correctly


Tergeo
Wand movement: Point wand
Effect: Used to siphon any liquid, such as blood, dust or grease, off of the target


Ventus
Wand movement: Whip-like
Effect: Shoots a jet of spiralling wind from the tip of the wand
Other notes: Emits white light if cast correctly

Umbrella Charm
Wand movement: Point Wand vertically upwards
Effect: A translucent umbrella shoots from the wand tip.

Other notes: The tone of the voice can be changed by continuing the oval shape clockwise to make the voice higher-pitched, and anti-clockwise to make it deeper. Finite will end the spell.

Other notes: The spell has varying degrees of effectiveness ranging from mildly confusing a person about a specific incident or thing, or making them so confused they are a danger to themselves or others. Wand movement: Jagged line toward the target
Effect: Creates fissures in 'earthen' objects, namely stone or metal.
Other notes: Emits an orange light. Creates small fissures up to a metre in length on the surface of metal or stone objects, it can also weaken shielding spells. Graduates may cast a much stronger version of the spell that creates longer, deeper and wider fissures several metres long and can use it to break open shielding spells. Created by Gregory James during his time as a student at Hogwarts.

Effect: Shoots a bolt of lightning from the tip of the wand.
Other notes: This spell shoots a white bolt of lightning from the caster’s wand at the target. The power of the spell is affected by the caster’s ability, intent, and the abilities of their wand. If the spell hits the target, 6th years can cause minor or moderate shocks that may cause slight burns to their target. If the hex backfires it will cause a minor shock to the caster. Graduates may cast a much stronger version of this spell that can cause heavy shocks, and potentially incineration.

Wand movement: Flick wand at target
Effect: Creates an exact duplicate of a small, inanimate object. Cannot be used to replicate the effects on magical items. Copies tend to rot or tarnish quickly, meaning the duplicates have no value.


Imitamen (Created by Luke Sankho)
Duplicate Charm
Wand movement: Clockwise circular motion above the head of the person you wish to duplicate. Effect: The spell is used to create a duplicate of a living person that is controlled and maintained by the willpower of the caster.
Other notes: This duplicate is a decoy that isn't corporeal and is not able to speak, and it will turn to smoke if interacted with physically. 6th years can create one duplicate, graduates can create up to five copies. One duplicate will be difficult to maintain. The more copies you make, the harder the spell will be to hold and control.

Wand movement: Drag wand upwards.
Effect: Reanimates a dead non-magical creature.
Other information: A non-animal is reanimated to do a Dark Wizard's bidding and is not brought back to life. They have no will of their own. Magical creatures can't be realised by this spell. The creature would be referred to as a Revixus (singular) or Revixi (plural). The creature will be preserved in the state they were in when the spell was cast. They are resistant to most spells and won't be stopped by losing a limb - or several. Fire spells will destroy them. The creatures are less useful than Inferi, as their animal intelligence means they can't perform complicated commands. Emits a crimson light. The spell originates in Ancient Egypt, and is widely known to Dark Wizards over the world.

Effect: Cuts the victim as though they've been slashed with an invisible sword.
Other notes: While light leaves the wand tips and the slash follows the wand movement. The cuts can be deep, and if not treated quickly they can prove fatal. Although permanent scarring can be avoided with use of dittany, completely severing a body part will result in it's permanent loss.

Other notes: This spell is often used by Aurors and Hit Wizards to track down convicts by following their footsteps. Bright white light when casting that illuminates the room. In most cases this will work thoroughly but if there are multiple prints in the area then as the light clears out you will hear a fizzling noise and there will be no results shown. Created by the famous Hit Wizard, Albert Kingston, in 1982.

Advorsortium (Created by Bertram Knowles and Gregory James)
Reflective Charm
Wand movement: Twist, then thrust
Effect: Creates a deflective single-use shield that hangs in the air in front of the caster, or over another target of the caster’s choosing.
Other notes: Deflects a single spell back at whoever tries to cast a spell on the person or object being protected, then collapses. Useful for setting up a protective spell in advance. An orange light is emitted, creating a shield that turns invisible once set in place. The largest shield could accommodate up to three people at once. Several people working together can make a bigger shield. The shield will not block physical objects. If someone knows it’s there it can be disarmed using Finite. Used in conjunction with other magical security means, this can be a very useful defensive spell, and it will fail with explosive consequences if cast wrong. This spell was created by Bertram Knowles and Gregory James in Bertram's final year as a student at Hogwarts.

Dark Mist Curse
Wand movement: Horizontal "S"-shaped
Effect: Creates a rapidly expanding black mist that robs anyone in the affected area of their sight and hearing. The effects last for several hours after it touches the intended victims. Other notes: A full spherical shield can keep the mist out, however, shielding once the mist has already reached the victim won't stop the effects. This highly complex to spell is directed by the caster's willpower, making it difficult to cast, control and maintain. The curse was created by Gregory James in his final year at Hogwarts and perfected over the next few years. 7th years may cast the spell on a single target. Graduates can use the full effects of the spell.

Other notes: The damage output of this spell varies depending on the power cast behind it, and it is often deadly when cast with maximum power or when handled irresponsibly. Wand movement: Encircle the victim’s burns.
Effect: This spell halts the progression of magical burns.
Other notes: A muted white light surrounds the burn momentarily and prevents the magical burn from becoming worse. This spell must be used before pain relief on victims of the Burning Chains Curse; these burns are created by dark magic and will progress and block the effects of any pain relief.

Effect: Reveals human presence with a marker that points to where they are hidden.
Other notes: The target of the spell will feel a 'swooping' sensation over them once the spell has located them. The spell can be fooled by some countermeasures and interfered with by other magic in the vicinity, but it will detect people who are simply wearing an invisibility cloak.

Effect This spell shoots out sharp, hot chains that bind the victim and cuts into their skin. Other notes: The chains can cut into and burn the skin, and these burns needs urgent medical attention otherwise they will continue to cause pain after the spell is cast. The spell can be countered with Finite. The spell was created by Gregory James during his time as a student at Hogwarts.

Wand movement: Point at the target.
Effect: Reverses the effects of the Invortus Curse.
Other notes: This spell will only remove the Invortus Curse, it will not prevent it. When cast, it is accompanied a red light light that flashes briefly on contact with the target if the curse is successfully removed. This is a complex spell with a high failure rate; multiple attempts may be necessary.


Invorto Medicum (Created by Gregory James)
Invortus Curse
Wand movement: Point at the victim.
Effect: Any healing spells cast on the victim of this curse will cause damage instead of helping them.
Other notes: When this spell is cast on a person they will be harmed by any healing spells cast on them. The damage will often her the opposite effect of the healing spell used, although it can be highly unpredictable and range from moderate to severe. This spell has been known to backfire on the caster when done incorrectly and inflict pain through their wand arm when it does so. This spell was created by Gregory James as a student.

Firewall Charm
Wand movement: Two connected loops
Effect: Creates a temporary wall of fire in front of the caster.
Other notes: Those new to the spell may fail to cast it or produce a wall not much bigger than the own wands. Proficient casters can create walls slightly taller than their own height, and up to three times that in width. Fire walls must be maintained by the caster as they will otherwise automatically extinguish after a few minutes. Using Depulso on the fire will cause it to hurtle in the direction it was pointed in. The spell was created by the Ancient Greek alchemist and architect, Kallinikos, who was also responsible for the invention of Greek Fire.

Wand movement: Point skyward.
Effect: Cast with a blue-tinged light, this spell repels enemies by pushing them backwards when they touch the boundary of the spell.
Other notes: When used in conjunction with Protego Maxima and Fianto Duri, they create a strong shield that is capable of resisting all but the strongest attacks and that can disintegrate enemies who attempt to cross the boundary until the shield is broken.


Permuto Anima (Created by Gregory James)
Anima Curse
Wand movement: Point the wand at the victim and 'drag' it toward the person who is dying. Effect: A spell that returns one person from the cusp of death by taking another to it.
Other notes: This spell saves someone from imminent death following a mortal wound at the cost using the life energy of a healthy person. The victim will be taken to the brink of death and will require medical attention to survive following the spell. If the spell is successful, the victim and healed person will be bathed in a muted grey light. The victim will feel instantly drained of energy, they will feel confused and their vision will turn grey and lose focus before they fully lose consciousness. The victim feels a burning cold before they pass out, rather than pain, and they can last for hours (sometimes more than a day) in their unconscious state before they succumb to death. To reverse the effects, advanced healing treatments and plenty of sleep is required to restore the victim’s life force. If this spell is poorly cast there will be severe consequences for the caster, including pain, scarring and potentially death. This spell was created by Gregory James in his final year at Hogwarts.

Effect: Hides a small area from view of those outside the area.
Other notes: Casts a slight haze in the air when successfully cast.


Sonaris Conflucto (Created by Gregory James)
Sonic Shockwave Spell
Wand movement: Slash upwards then forwards.
Effect: Releases an invisible shockwave from the wand tip that causes sound damage.
Other information: The shockwave is made of compressed sound that causes minor physical destruction and shatters glass. The high-pitched pulse released by the compressed wave can cause hearing damage in a wide radius. The longest recorded shockwave is roughly 50 metres. This spell was created by Gregory James as a student.
Note on use in RPs: This spell can be stopped by a powerful shield spell or a well-timed Quietus. Please note that it's very unlikely that most people would reach a 50 metre shockwave and some may be unable to create a shockwave at all, however, the hearing damage effects can be created even if a shockwave isn't produced.

Voice Altering Spell
Wand movement: Point at the throat.
Effect:Disguises the caster’s voice.
Other notes: The target will feel an uncomfortable sensation in their throat that is the magic altering how their vocal cords work. The effect is temporary and will begin to wear off in anything from a few minutes to a couple of hours. Once the spell begins to wear off it can have side-effects for a short time afterwards, such as uncontrollable stuttering, inability to speak, choking, spluttering, and a sore throat is not only common, but is expected. Repeated use of this spell over a short period can lead to minor changes in the caster’s voice (similar to having nodules), which can be remedied using potions if treated promptly. This spell cannot be used in conjunction with other voice-altering spells (i.e. Sonorus and Quietus). If the spell backfires, it can cause the side-effects previously listed instead of the intended effects and they will not only happen immediately, but will be more severe. This spell was created by Meghan Frisk during her time as a renegade leader.

Vulnera Sanatur
(Spell has no name)
Wand movement: Trace wand over wounds.
Effect: Prevents further blood loss from deep wounds.
Other notes: Repeated use of the spell is needed to slow the blood flow, clear the blood, and temporarily knit the flesh back together. Further medical treatment is needed to complete the healing process and use of dittany will reduce the appearance of scars. This is a counter-spell for Sectumsempra.

Bedazzling Hex
Wand movement: Point wand at target.
Effect: Imbues an object with a bedazzlement that makes people's eyes pass over the object as though it wasn't there.
Other notes: The effects of this spell are similar to using invisibility spells, and will wear off over time. Well cast spells may last for several months, whereas poorly cast spells may not lest for more than a few hours if they work at all.

Effect: Sets off a loud alarm when the area is entered by emitting a high-pitched scream.

Wand movement: Tap the primary object followed by the secondary objects.
Effect: Links objects and reflects any changes made to the primary object to the others linked to it. This works best when the objects are the same. Changing the primary object causes the linked objects to heat up and alert those in possession of the objects that a change has been made. This is an effective way to share messages when other means of communication might not be possible.

This curse is currently illegal, and using it on any human being will earn the caster a life sentence in Azkaban. Used correctly, it could cause moderate to severe pain, paralysis, and potentially death. Should something go wrong during the spell it could potentially backfire in much the same way.

It is also difficult to cast, and requires the unconditional intent of the caster to cause the victim to suffer. There is no known defense against this curse other than to dodge or use a physical barrier.

Pain-Moderating Spell
Wand movement: Point the wand at the area that it painful on the individual.
Effect: The spell works on excruciating pain by reducing it to a manageable level.
Other notes: This spell doesn’t alleviate all of the target’s pain, however, it will reduce it to a more tolerable level. It will wear off in around an hour, and will need to be replenished constantly unless a potion is used. Multiple applications may be necessary if the area in pain is large. The charm won’t work on low to severe pain, it is for helping to manage extreme pain only. It can work to slightly reduce the effects of the Crutiatus Curse, but the effects would be minimal and short lived.


Fianto Duri
(Spell has no name)
Wand movement: Point wand skywards.
Effect: Hardens magical barriers, making them stronger against attaching spells.
Other notes: When used in conjunction with Protego Maxima and Repello Inmicum they create a strong shield that is capable of resisting all but the strongest attacks and that can disintegrate enemies who attempt to cross the boundary until the shield is broken.


Homorphus
Homorphus Charm
Wand movement: Point at target.
Effect: Temporarily changes a transformed Werewolf back to their human form.
Other notes: This would be highly painful and traumatic to the Werewolf, and it would not last for very long. The spell is highly complex and when handled poorly it can have disastrous consequences to both the Werewolf and the caster.


Imperio

Wand movement: Point wand at target
Effects: Allows the caster to control the actions of another living creature.
Other notes: This spell can be blocked by a strong shielding spell. The victim will experience complete lack of free will when under this curse, and their actions dictated entirely by the caster. This spell cannot be used to force Secret Keepers to reveal their secrets as they must give them up willingly. The use of this spell on another human being will earn the caster a life sentence in Azkaban. It also requires immense willpower to cast and maintain for long periods, making it a highly difficult spell to use.

Wand movement: A ‘wave’ motion/ exaggerated ‘W’
Effect: This spell fills the victim’s lungs with water, effectively drowning them from the inside. Other notes: The victim's lungs begin to slowly fill with water, causing their airways to spasm and they will start gasping for air. As the lungs begin to fill, the victim will experience pain from the water and find breathing increasingly difficult until their airways seal over. Once this occurs the victim will start to become weak, dizzy and eventually become unconscious. After the victim becomes unconscious they will die within minutes if the spell isn’t treated. This spell can be countered by expelling the water from the victim’s lungs, and the most safe and effective way of doing this is to use Anapneo to clear the water from the lungs. This spell was created by Gregory James during his travels.

Lettum Excessum (Created by Gregory James)
Petrification Curse
Wand movement: Diagonal slash to the left.
Effect: Petrifies the victim.
Other notes: Emits violet light. Not to be confused with a full-body bind, the Petrification Curse causes complete petrification of the victim and they would not be conscious. This complex and difficult spell can backfire on the caster if handled poorly. Mandrake Root Draught will reverse the effects. The spell requires powerful magic and immense concentration, and there has been no known use of the spell in recent history. Gregory James discovered this historical spell in Greece during his research, although the creator and exact origins remain a mystery.

Effect: Conjures the Dark Mark; a large haze of green smoke in the shape of a skull with a snake winding from its mouth like a tongue.

Pavorus Curse
Wand movement: Circular with a slash through the middle.
Effect: More dangerous than a Boggart, this curse makes the victim feel, hear, taste and smell their worst fear in addition to seeing it. The victim is trapped in a waking nightmare. Other notes: Also known as "the living nightmare curse". This spell is massively traumatic to victim. It's used mainly for torture and debilitation, although the spell does have the ability to kill. The spell accesses the subconscious, reaching the darkest fears people might not know they possess. This spell can only cast on target at a time and doesn't need to be maintained. Advanced healing potions are required to reverse the effects. This spell was created by Gregory James during his travels and research in the years before he returned to Hogwarts as a professor for the second time.

Wand movement: Hold wand aloft and sweep toward target(s).
Effect: Animates statues and suits of armour. The light for this spell is green.


Protego Maxima
(Spell has no name)
Wand movement: Point skywards.
Effect: Creates a magical barrier over a large area.
Other notes: The wand light is blue-white. When used in conjunction with Fianto Duri and Repello Inmicum they create a strong shield that is capable of resisting all but the strongest attacks and that can disintegrate enemies who attempt to cross the boundary until the shield is broken.


Repello Muggletum
Muggle-Repelling Charm
Wand movement: Point wand around the area.
Effect: Repels Muggles from the area. When successfully cast, a slight haze will be briefly visible from the tip of the wand.


Teritum Alipsi (Created by Lilliana Devane)
Area Remembrance Charm
Wand Movement: Touch wand to an object.
Effect: This spell will replay a memory for the caster within a confined area in which it will only last as long as the caster can stay focused or until the fragmented memory finishes playing out. As with any spell there are ramifications if cast improperly which could leave the room on an infinite loop until the Magical Mishap team can rectify it with a reversal spell. This is not a spell that will play out like a pensieve. It only shows a fragment of the room's memory from its energy field, in which case the spell will only answer the question on your mind in terms of what information you are looking for. You will only be able to see the fragment if you know where and what you are looking for.
Other Notes: This spell was created by someone within the ministry long ago to help in dire needs when no evidence could be found, or if there was no trace of anything happening despite knowing that it transpired. It is only used by ministry workers although it has been found to be in several wizarding spell books hidden away from prying eyes. *If this spell is misused then it will be restricted.*

Womb Cushioning Charm
Wand movement: Encircle the abdomen of the pregnant woman.
Effect: This spell creates a cushion around the womb that dampens impacts and provides some protection for an unborn baby.
Other notes: If the spell is successful, a pink light with a luminescent glow will surround the abdomen before fading. The spell was created by an unknown healer in 1917. The spell won't protect the unborn baby from magical damage.


Vitalutumos (Created by Gregory James)
Vitalis Spell
Wand movement: Tap the target.
Effect: Used to 'wake up' prepared Golem Clay.
Other information: Also known as the Golem Charm. Each golem can be prepared with one instruction only. These clay golems are vaguely goblin-like in appearance, and they can range in height from no bigger than a thumb to several feet taller than the caster. The bigger the golem, the more stucturally weak they are. Knee-height golems have the best structural integrity. Golems can be shattered by force, and the their magical properties can be drained when submerged in water for too long, rendering them useless statues. The spell is of ancient Jewish origins, pieced together by Kathryn Nevarro from several forgotten manuscripts.
Notes for use in RP: Golem Clay must be prepared with the correct potion and their single instruction prior to using the spell. If part of the clay is removed and placed within a stone object, such as a wall, the golem can move through - and stay in - the object without hinderance.

Effect: Detects the movement of people below a certain age crossing the line.

Effect: This charm is used to modify weather conditions in a small area and can be used indoors.
Other notes: It is primarily used in a similar way to Muggle air conditioning. The spell can be removed using Meteolojinx Recanto.

Effect: Conceals the target by making it take on the colour and appearance of the what is around it.

Effect: Conceals a secret inside the soul of a living witch or wizard. This person is known as a 'Secret Keeper'.
Other notes: This is a highly complex charm. Only the Secret Keeper can reveal the secret. If the secret involves a location or object, it will remain invisible, intangible and undetectable to anyone who hasn't been told it directly by the Secret Keeper.

Effect: Sound proofs the target object.
Other notes: Can be used on walls and doors to soundproof a room.

Effect: Casts a golden mist that hovers above the ground and appears to reverse gravity when people step into it. When people step out the other end the effects of the spell are immediately reversed.
